Reduced funding for the Police has led directly to less officers on our streets and also less officers and supporting staff to investigate crimes and to gather evidence to help prosecute criminals.
SmartVille cameras are funded mainly by local residents and businesses with the intention of providing the local authorities with images and information that will help to identify those taking part in criminal activities and to provide supporting evidence to help secure convictions.
SmartVille work with Residents Associations, Neighbourhood Watch, Local Councils and the Police to help detect and deter crime in our neighbourhoods.
To provide high quality CCTV evidence to support the authorities in the identification and prosecution of those planning and carrying out crimes in or travelling through a SmartVille area to commit crimes elsewhere.
To act as deterrent to those targeting the area for criminal purposes – the message is: if you’re here to commit crime, we will gather evidence to help the authorities catch and prosecute you!
YES! SmartVille is based on a similar project started in Ickenham in 2010 due to an increase in local crime and also travelling criminals because of its proximity to the M25 and M40.
The Ickenham project is widely supported by local residents; the Residents Association; The local Council and both The Met & TVP Police forces.
The scheme has demonstrated success locally with a reported drop of 90% in reported crime and increased ‘detection rates’ of more than 35%. Evidence provided by the team in Ickenham has helped to secure over 1,200 years of sentencing.
Since starting in other locations, SmartVille volunteers have provided supporting evidence and intelligence to the Police and Council on countless occasions. Much of the information provided has: helped to identify suspects; led to arrests and successful prosecutions.
