About Smartville

Smartville is a community funded CCTV evidence gathering scheme that consist of strategically positioned Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and high-quality surveillance cameras.

We partner with Neighbourhood Watch, Residents Associations, Local Councils and The Police to work together to help detect and prevent crime with the overall aim of creating a safer neighbourhoods.

Key objectives

Provide ANPR tracking information and CCTV images to support the authorities in the identification and prosecution of those planning and carry out crimes in or travelling through a Smartville area to commit crimes elsewhere. To act as deterrent to those targeting the area for criminal purposes – the message is:  if you come here to commit crime, we will gather evidence to help the authorities catch and prosecute you.

Does it work?

The idea is based around a similar project in Ickenham in 2010 and is supported by the local resident’s association, The Met and TVP forces.

This scheme has demonstrated local success through a drop of 90% in reported crime and an increased detection rate of more than 35% which has resulted in over 1,200 years of sentencing.
